Woodlands Masters Swimming has its beginnings within the late 1970’s. Candy Pew, Laura Thomas and Tom Boak, all swimming independently of each other, attended the nationwide championships in San Antonio, Texas in 1978. Initially, swimmers from the Woodlands competed as a part of Texas Gulf Masters, after which in 1982 As Lone Star Masters. Although not a registered staff, The Woodlands was effectively acknowledged within the swimming world because the host of the 1978 AAU Long Course National Championships and the 1982 Short Course, 1987 and 1990 Long Course United States Masters Swimming National Championships. By 1988 the staff had grown considerably in dimension, and cut up from Lone Star Masters to turn into The Woodlands Masters Swim Team. WMST has hosted quite a few native and zone meets, together with being the annual host of The Woodlands Relays (for the previous eighteen years), along with internet hosting the 2007 USMS Long Course National Championships.
