Iowa man spends firm funds on Pokemon playing cards, will get federal sentence

EARLING, Iowa (WOWT) – A western Iowa man has been sentenced to federal jail for wire fraud.

Mitch William Gross, 34, of Earling, Iowa, was sentenced in court docket Friday to four months in federal prison and to pay restitution, a launch states.

Court paperwork point out that from September 2021 to October 2022, Gross defrauded his employer, Ruan Transporation Corp., with private purchases.

Authorities allege Gross used business-related bank cards for purchases of pay as you go present playing cards, Pokemon playing cards, and gaming gadgets totaling over $140,000.

According to the discharge, Gross then submitted falsified receipts and “mischaracterized fraudulent charges” on his expense reviews with a purpose to make the purchases seem respectable.

Along along with his sentence, Gross was ordered to pay $146,590.15 in restitution for the purchases.

After he’s out of jail, he will likely be underneath supervised launch for 3 years. Officials wish to remind the general public that there isn’t a parole within the federal system.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Des Moines Police Department investigated this case.
