When you’re a mother coordinating a household portrait, standing in entrance of a closet will be fairly intimidating. We spoke to an expert photographer to learn to make it as simple as attainable.

“I shoot mainly earth tones, so I go for the mustards, oranges, and greens. It pops in the photos. That’s what you’re going to mainly go for, and especially for fall because that’s the golden hour,” Photographer Alana Brown stated.

“What we do is we start off with our mom’s outfit, because the mom is usually the hardest one to find an outfit for, because we are so typically self-critical of ourselves. Then we’ll go to the kids, and normally what I’ll do is base their outfit off the colors that are on the mom’s outfit. If there’s a pattern, we’ll play off the pattern,” Brown stated.

“What we normally do with a hat, we’re going to put this on, you’re going to put one hand on the hat, so it gives your hand something to do. Your other hand can go on your leg, on your hip, or wherever. And have your little foot propped up like that so we can have a little attitude with it.”
