Hi everybody,

I’m formally tendering my resignation as Vice Chancellor of the Australian National University, which shall be accepted by the Chancellor and Council.

This was not a straightforward resolution.

As a lot of you already know, the ANU has been a particular place for me, ever since I used to be a baby. And being its thirteenth Vice Chancellor has been a rare privilege and in addition a heavy accountability.

Like the remainder of our neighborhood, I imagine firmly in our delivering on our nationwide mission – to create and transmit information by means of analysis and educating of the very best high quality. And know that doing this requires a stable monetary, cultural and operational basis.

Achieving such a basis has been tough and this has been a really laborious time for our neighborhood. I’m grateful for all of the ways in which individuals have proven up and for all of the work that has been achieved and the progress we now have made.

Like the remainder of our neighborhood, I do know there’s nonetheless extra work to take action. I very a lot need to see the ANU thrive into the longer term and for it to proceed to be a exceptional place and I don’t need to stand in the best way of that.

So I’m stepping down from my function as Vice Chancellor. My plan is to take time without work, together with a interval of research depart, after which return to the School of Cybernetics as a Distinguished Professor the place I hope to proceed to contribute to our neighborhood.

Distinguished Professor Genevieve Bell
