Every Little Thing by April Jeppson
The climate this week has been attractive, and I’ve been absorbing each little bit of it. Blue skies, sunshine and additional time spent on my deck — all of it seems like a present. And talking of items, my birthday is that this weekend.

I like my birthday. I all the time have. Back within the day, I went all out with what I known as Aprilpalooza. It wasn’t only a day, it was an occasion. Sometimes it lasted per week, generally longer, full of lunches, dinners and outings with pals. The complete factor began as a result of I couldn’t afford to exit to eat, so I shamelessly requested my pals to take me out for my birthday. It labored, and a practice was born.
There was one thing so enjoyable about realizing the entire week was principally “mine.” I’d look ahead to it for months. It wasn’t about getting presents or cake (although these by no means damage), it was about assured time with individuals I liked. And let’s be sincere, it was an excellent excuse to stretch out the celebration so long as potential.
These days, the celebrations are slightly extra low-key. Having a job means I’ve much less free time to dedicate to a weeklong birthday competition, and I don’t have fairly the identical power to hustle my pals at no cost meals. Honestly, it makes the day sneak up on me greater than it used to. I blink, and instantly it’s right here.
But even with out the parade of day by day outings, I nonetheless really feel supremely blessed. This week I had a stunning stroll with a pal and a scrumptious lunch with one other, and that seems like greater than sufficient. I now not want to attend for my birthday to do issues with the individuals I care about. Instead of cramming all of it into one week, I can sprinkle in enjoyable moments all year long.
After three complete weeks with out a tv, we lastly caved and acquired one. Three weeks may not sound like a lot, however on this home, it was virtually a season of “Survivor,” in order that little detox was precisely what we would have liked. We lingered longer on the dinner desk, informed tales and really paid consideration to one another as a substitute of half-watching a present whereas scrolling our telephones. It compelled us to rethink how we spend our typically restricted time collectively.
I’m not about to faux we’ve became a household that solely performs board video games and reads Shakespeare by candlelight. The TV has been on a number of occasions this week (and the image high quality is wonderful). However, when the present is over, we flip it off and that’s so liberating. This provides us time to complete homework, chores or simply have slightly quiet time earlier than mattress. It actually slows down the night and helps me to be current. I adore it.
Cheers to this lovely climate, moments with these we love and one other journey across the solar.
