Lac Ste. Anne County is becoming a member of communities throughout Canada in recognizing Rail Safety Week, going down September 15–21, 2025.

The proclamation, signed by Reeve Joe Blakeman on September 4, highlights the significance of elevating consciousness concerning the risks of railway crossings and trespassing. In 2024 alone, there have been 261 railway crossing and trespassing incidents in Canada, leading to 68 preventable fatalities and 58 critical accidents.

“Educating and informing the public about rail safety can save lives,” stated Reeve Blakeman. “By reminding people that railway rights-of-way are private property and by encouraging everyone to look, listen, and obey traffic laws near railways, we can reduce these avoidable tragedies.”

The County’s proclamation helps the efforts of CN Rail and Operation Lifesaver, a nationwide public–non-public partnership devoted to rail security training in collaboration with governments, Indigenous communities, police providers, media, and the rail trade.

Rail Safety Week serves as a reminder to motorists and pedestrians alike to remain alert, keep protected, and respect the rails. Let’s work collectively to look, hear, and reside.
