FRANKLIN, N.C. (Gray News) – Grammy-winning songwriter Brett James was killed in a small airplane crash close to an elementary college in North Carolina Thursday evening, based on a number of experiences.

He was 57.

FOX 17 and WTVF-TV report the Nashville singer-songwriter was certainly one of three individuals onboard a airplane that went down close to Iotla Valley Elementary School.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) confirmed his loss of life in a post on Instagram saying, “We’re mourning the loss of Brett James, co-writer of ‘Jesus, Take the Wheel’ & ‘When the Sun Goes Down’ and a 2-time ASCAP Country Songwriter of the Year.”

“Brett was a trusted collaborator to country’s greatest names, and a true advocate for his fellow songwriters. Brett, your ASCAP family misses you dearly. Thank you for your unforgettable music,” the publish continued.

The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame additionally posted about his loss of life on Facebook saying, “We mourn the untimely loss of Hall of Fame member Brett James (“Jesus Take The Wheel” / “When The Sun Goes Down”), a 2020 inductee who was killed in a small-engine airplane crash on Sept. 18. He was 57.”

Macon County Schools mentioned that each one college students and workers on the close by elementary college had been secure and that the crash didn’t happen on campus.

The crash is being investigated by the North Carolina Highway Patrol, FAA and National Transportation Safety Board.
