The 53rd annual Convention of the Sons of The American Legion in Tampa Bay, Fla., was an thrilling and fun-filled weekend. The highpoint for me was the shock that my 13-year-old son, Geir Clancy, was on stage to appoint me for the excessive workplace of National Commander of the 401,000-plus member Sons of The American Legion.

Following that nomination, and election, and being led to the stage by all the Past National Commanders in attendance, was a humbling expertise as I look as much as and admire every of these males for his or her previous and ongoing service to our group.

I’m past excited to do my finest over this subsequent yr to steer us to new heights and ongoing success. The theme for the yr is impressed immediately from our preamble. “Community, State and Nation, Live Your Obligation.”

The SAL is rising from a corporation into one thing of a social motion. We have handed 400,000 members and we’re approaching 6,000 Squadrons. I purpose for each squadron to be a beacon inside communities; a beacon of service, patriotism and “Fun With Purpose.”

So let’s get fired up! Let’s serve veterans and interact with our nation’s youth and encourage them to civic involvement!

We have the numbers, now we have the vitality, now we have the folks main the cost!

Let’s discover each veteran in each neighborhood and invite them to grow to be Legionnaires; invite them to carry their spouses and daughters to affix The American Legion Auxiliary and invite their sons and grandsons to affix the SAL.
