Join the University Libraries for a particular Banned Books Week 2025 screening of the documentary The Librarians on Thursday, Oct. 9, on the Varsity Theater in Chapel Hill.

In at this time’s America, political polarization finds librarians below siege as an unprecedented wave of e book banning is sparked in Texas, Florida and past. As the disaster escalates, they be part of forces as unlikely defenders on the frontlines of democracy. Director Kim A. Snyder’s documentary The Librarians traverses small-town USA with riveting interviews and troves of archival materials to disclose the story of the nation’s heroic librarians, on a regular basis Americans who’ve develop into unlikely defenders of democracy, risking every thing to uphold our most basic of rights. 

The movie shall be launched by Dr. Francesca Tripodi, professor at UNC’s School of Information and Library Science and Principal Investigator on the Center for Information Technology and Public Life (CITAP) at UNC-Chapel Hill.  

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the occasion beginning promptly at 7 p.m. Get your online ticket now. Tickets will even be obtainable on a first-come, first-served foundation on the occasion. This screening, hosted by UNC Libraries and CITAP, is free and open to the general public and fulfills a CLE credit score.
