Three Mountaineers Earn Big 12 Weekly Awards

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three student-athletes from the West Virginia University males’s and girls’s swimming and diving groups earned Big 12 Conference weekly awards following their performances on the Florida State University Invitational.
 
Freshman Jake Salcedo was named the Big 12 Men’s Newcomer of the Week after he positioned second within the 500-yard freestyle (4:30.02). Freshman Caden Oprandy and freshman Macey Larson every earned honors as nicely for his or her performances.

 

Larson was named Women’s Co-Newcomer of the Week after she positioned fourth within the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.70), sixth within the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.77) and sixth within the 50-yard breaststroke (29.64). She was additionally a part of two relays that positioned within the prime 4. Larson is the primary swimmer on the ladies’s staff to earn a Big 12 weekly honor for the reason that 2022-23 season. 

 

Oprandy earned Men’s Co-Newcomer of the Week after he completed third within the 200-yard breaststroke (2:00.53).

 

West Virginia returns to motion on Saturday, Oct. 4, because it hosts the West Virginia State Games at The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. Sessions start at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
