“But with this second project, I’m singing some songs that are not my story, specifically. But I know that they are relatable stories and things that I’ve either felt or I have watched close family members and friends walk through. And so that’s been fun because I think nowadays, since people follow me online and they feel like they know everything about me, which they kind of do because I let them into my home and my garden and everything. But there’s so much more to sing about than just my story, you know? And I feel like, as an artist, I have the opportunity to sing songs that may not be true necessarily to me.”
Looking Back on The Voice
Emily Ann competed on season 9 of The Voice and completed in second place. Ten years after her audition, she’s reflecting on the expertise. “It’s crazy, honestly. I know that’s such a simple way to put it, but it is. It’s a crazy feeling to look back on those videos of little Emily. I was 16 years old and I think, ‘Who was that little girl?’ My life changed so quickly. The Voice set me on the path that I am walking on today. It was not the end of my story. It was just a launching pad and an introduction to this business and my fans. And I know that I have people who are still coming to my shows that have followed me for literally 10 years.”

Emily Ann admits that she thought she was ready to take on the country music business at that time, but she’s taken the past decade to do “a lot of growing up and a lot of learning.” With some perspective, she explains, “And I’m so thankful that the Lord is in control of our lives and timing and that He did not open those doors right then because I’ve had time to really grow and just get better.”
Signing a Record Deal
Emily Ann just celebrated a major milestone as she signed a record deal, and she understands the significance of the moment in a challenging industry. “It was something that I dreamed of forever,” she says. “And I’ll be honest with you, for the past 10 years, I have seen all of my friends sign record deals in Nashville, and I have been so thrilled for them. But there have been so many moments where I have been alone in the quiet of my house and with my husband, where I have cried and wondered why have I not had that opportunity when you’re over here working just as hard. But I have to trust in something bigger than me. And I find so much peace in trusting that the Lord’s timing is perfect.”
She continues, “There were opportunities that we could have taken to sign earlier, but it just wasn’t right. And I’m so thankful that I waited until it was the right team of folks and folks that didn’t want to change Emily Ann. I have seen all kinds of comments from people saying, ‘Don’t let the industry change you now that you’ve signed a record deal.’ And my comment back to them is, ‘Honey, if they ain’t changed me in these past 10 years, nobody’s gonna change me.
“I’m so excited to see all we accomplish together. It is a true partnership, and I’m really excited. It just makes me want to work even harder.”
Lessons from the Road
Emily Ann has had the opportunity to tour with some of the biggest names in country music, including Blake Shelton, Megan Moroney, and Cody Johnson, and she’s taken the opportunity to learn from each of the stars.

And I’ve learned from him that you can be yourself and you can make the music you want to make, and you will find your audience if you work hard enough and stay true to yourself.”
Her relationship with Blake has continued long gone their time on The Voice. She says, “The biggest thing that I have learned from Blake Shelton is to always reach out a helping hand to those who are coming up behind you, because he has never stopped doing that. He’s still reaching out a helping hand to me and taking me out on the road with him. That’s amazing, and not all artists are like that. I want to be that kind of artist. You know, you cannot get too big for your britches. And Blake Shelton is definitely not too big for his britches.”
Finding Comforts of Home

And Chris will tell you, from the minute we got married and I started making our own home, everything I did was like, ‘Does that look Meemaw enough?’”

A Jadeite egg holder formed like a hen. “It holds your eggs, and it looks like a chicken, and it is adorable,” she says. “Mine and my husband’s absolute favorite thing to do on an off day is go antiquing and go thrifting. There’s something so much fun about finding treasures that people got rid of or they think are out of style.”
As for her private style, Emily Ann has discovered an ideal accomplice in stylist Leah Steiger, who has additionally directed a number of of Emily Ann’s music movies. “She is perfect.
