Within the Bittersweet: Artist and Publisher Talk with Allison Grant and Evan Baden

Photographer Allison Grant will talk about Within the Bittersweet, her long-form photographic undertaking that explores the emotional weight of elevating her daughters in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, towards the backdrop of local weather disaster and native industrial air pollution. Drawing on an extended custom of socially acutely aware photographers who make political work laden with the private, her photos negotiate urgent new considerations as our planet undergoes fast and irreversible change.

Grant can be joined by Oregon State University professor and writer Evan Baden, who oversees Composit Press. Composit is a student-run press that just lately printed a monograph of Grant’s undertaking. Baden will share insights into the publication course of and evolving panorama of photograph e-book publishing.

Her artworks have been broadly exhibited and are held in collections on the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Birmingham Museum of Art, High Museum of Art, DePaul Art Museum, Columbia College Chicago, King County Portable Works Collection and a number of other non-public and company collections.
