Bears Reach ITA Regional Doubles Final

BERKELEY – The California girls’s tennis crew noticed its high doubles crew attain the ultimate of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships when Mao Mushika and Greta Greco Lucchina received twice beneath cloudy skies Monday on the Hellman Tennis Complex to advance to Tuesday’s title match. The Golden Bears will play a Washington State pair, with the champion qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championship in November.
 
The fifth-seeded Bears defeated Stanford’s fourth-seeded and Ninetieth-ranked Monika Ekstrand and Valerie Glozman 8-6 within the quarterfinal spherical earlier than besting Sacramento State’s ninth-seeded Irene Riva and Lou Baudouin 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(7) within the semifinals. Mushika and Greco Lucchina face the Cougars’ Eva Alvarez Sand and Maxine Murphy in Tuesday’s remaining. If the Bears prevail and attain the postseason, it could mark the third look in NCAA doubles for Mushika, who competed within the postseason in 2023-24 partnered with Hannah Viller Moeller and in 2024-25 with Jessica Alsola.
 
Along with the doubles quarterfinals and semifinals, Cal hosted one of many two singles semifinals, with the Bears’ eighth-seeded and 113th-ranked Berta Passola Folch falling to Stanford’s fifth-seeded Alyssa Ahn 6-3, 7-5. The Cardinal participant – who certified for the NCAA Singles Championship by reaching the regional remaining – will subsequent tackle the winner of the opposite semifinal between Mushika and Cal’s Naomi Xu within the remaining. Whichever Bear wins the semifinal will even qualify for NCAA singles, which Mushika competed in for the primary time final season.
 
Rain compelled the postponement of the second singles semifinal – which had been slated to happen Monday – to Tuesday at 9 a.m. PT at Hellman. The doubles remaining follows at 11 a.m. PT, and the singles remaining – the final match of the Berkeley regional – follows doubles at a time to be decided.
