In response to a latest string of so-called avenue takeovers, President Donald Trump stated Tuesday that he may “take away” the 2026 World Cup video games scheduled to be held within the Boston space.

The latest takeovers, which allegedly included unlawful avenue racing and attacking police cruisers, have occurred in Boston and a number of other close by communities. Similar incidents had been reported in three Boston neighborhoods and in Dedham, Fall River, Middleborough, and Randolph on a single evening earlier this month, in accordance with police.

That evening, a takeover in Boston allegedly noticed a violent crowd destroy a police cruiser, which police stated went up in flames after being hit with a lit firework.

When requested Tuesday at a White House press convention in regards to the avenue takeovers and upcoming World Cup video games, Trump harshly criticized the mayhem whereas throwing jabs at Mayor Michelle Wu.

“I love the people of Boston, and I know the games are sold out, but your mayor is not good,” Trump stated. “She’s intelligent, but she’s radical left.”

Trump indicated that he has little religion that Wu is sufficiently dealing with the takeovers and accused her of “hurting Boston.” Though he instructed taking federal motion, state politicians corresponding to Governor Maura Healey have strongly denounced the concept of sending the National Guard to Massachusetts.

“We could get them back in about two seconds,” Trump continued. “All she has to do is call us; we’ll go in and take them back, but she’s afraid to because she thinks it’s bad politically.”

Wu’s workplace issued a press release after Trump’s feedback saying, “Boston is honored and excited to host World Cup matches, and we look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to our beautiful city, the cradle of liberty and city of champions,” The Associated Press reported. 

Earlier this month, FIFA vp Victor Montagliani also pushed back on a number of the president’s earlier threats, noting “It’s FIFA’s tournament, FIFA’s jurisdiction, FIFA makes those decisions.”

Seven World Cup video games are scheduled to be held at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, however Trump stated he might attempt to transfer the video games if Boston doesn’t “clean up their act.”

“If I feel there’s unsafe conditions, I would call Gianni [Infantino], the head of FIFA, who’s phenomenal, and I would say, ‘Let’s move it to another location.’”
