Anxiety of Amnesia merges textual content, authentic imagery, and located archival images by two photographers: Andrea Wenglowskyj and her father, Bohdan. The work spans over sixty years and explores themes of possession, the facility of vernacular images, and the connection between absence, presence, and loss. As a younger Ukrainian immigrant, lawyer, and father, he grew to become a hobbyist photographer and left a trunk filled with images, negatives, and their packaging upon his loss of life in 2000. Along with each of their images, Wenglowskyj’s authentic textual content is interspersed on the wall. This imagined narrative permits her to imagine that for a short second, she and Bohdan are in a present-day dialog, each as adults and fogeys, but in addition as his daughter.

Andrea Wenglowskyj is a photo-based artist and business/editorial photographer based mostly in Buffalo, NY. She is the recipient of a Fulbright Grant in Ukraine, the place she traveled the nation and explored Ukrainian tradition by means of its modern artists and organizations. Her work has been printed by the New York Times and NPR, and her images has been exhibited at galleries comparable to Silver Eye Center for Photography in Pittsburgh, PA, Galerie Amu in Prague, and The Colorado Photographic Arts Center in Denver.
