Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday (October 18) slammed Biocon Chairperson and Bengaluru billionaire Kiran Mujumdar-Shaw over her criticism of Bengaluru’s infrastructure. The Karnataka deputy CM stated that she might develop the roads herself if she needed to.

Shivakumar stated that if she comes and asks, he’ll give her Bengaluru roads for improvement, ANI reported.

“If she wants to develop them (roads), let her do it. If she comes and asks, we will give her the roads,” Shivakumar said while he conducted the ‘Bengaluru Nadige (Walk for Bengaluru)’ program in the city’s KR Puram area, as reported by ANI.

What did Shaw say about Bengaluru roads?

Days ago, Shaw criticised the city’s infrastructure and poor roads as well as the poor garbage management system in Bengaluru. In a post on X, she shared that one of her overseas business investors visited Biocon Park and complained of ‘bad roads’ and garbage all around the city.

Frustrated with the poor roads and infrastructure in Bengaluru, Shaw shared a post on X, questioning the government.

“I had an overseas business visitor to Biocon Park who said, ‘ Why are the roads so bad, and why is there so much garbage around? Doesn’t the Govt want to support investment?” she wrote.

The Biocon chairperson further said that the visitor who arrived from China said, “I have just come from China and can’t understand why India can’t get its act together, especially when the winds are favourable?” She also tagged Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and IT Minister Priyank Kharge.

Priyank Kharge defends government

Following this, IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge also defended the government, saying that he is not sure which part of Bengaluru they have seen.

“Work is in progress. We are growing at a rapid pace, and whatever is necessary for infrastructure improvement, we are doing it,” he informed ANI.
