Barlow Theatre’s ‘Anything Goes’ musical guarantees toe-tapping enjoyable

Barlow High School is about to set sail with the staging of the “Anything Goes,” a tap-filled basic musical stuffed with memorable moments and music.

The musical tells of the voyage of the S.S. American between New York and England, stuffed with a madcap group of passengers, witty repartee, distinctive songs, and thrilling faucet dancing. A stowaway falls in love with an heiress, who’s engaged to a lord, and a complete heap of wacky characters assist him on his coronary heart quest.

“Cole Porter’s music bursts with wit, sophistication, and playful irreverence,” mentioned Director Jeff Schroeder, Barlow Theatre & Film Department. “‘Anything Goes’ reminds us of the power of entertainment to liberate the spirit.”

The 2022 revision consists of songs like “Anything Goes,” “You’re the Top,” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.” Music and lyrics are by Cole Porter. The authentic e book was penned by P.G. Wodehouse and Guy Bolton, in addition to Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. The new e book was by Timothy Crouse and John Weidman.

“I am continually amazed by the creativity and collaboration of our design team, directors, volunteers, and — most importantly — the students who pour their hearts into every song and scene,” Schroeder mentioned. “Their humor, kindness, and courage give me hope for what theatre can continue to mean in the world.”

Several reveals are deliberate. The performances will happen on the auditorium, positioned at 5105 S.E. 302nd Avenue.
