MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – When you ask Alexis Thomas about her new enterprise in Montgomery, all she will do is smile.
“We did it,” stated Thomas, proprietor of The Battlegrounds paintball indoor/out of doors facility. “At the end of the day… We did this.”
She earned that smile. She simply wouldn’t quit. After 4 years of battling, The Battlegrounds is now open for enterprise.
“I actually cry a lot. Because I’m like, every time we get a booking, I shed a tear- like this is really happening,” Thomas shared. “I’m overly proud! I am the first African American woman in the state of Alabama to own an indoor/outdoor field.”
It’s a household enterprise. Her husband and children all assist too. She wished a spot the place everybody can battle it out safely, even the little ones.
There are powder balls and splatter balls for the small children, there are the old fashioned nerf weapons, and for the large children the paintball weapons.
Alexis’ son Jordan is a referee right here.
“With the indoor field, we have glow in the dark [and] night vision goggles,” stated Jordan Sanders. “You can turn the lights on and you can do regular paint ball, and with the lights off you have night vision goggles. The outdoor field is more like a ”Call of Duty” feeling. You can jump through or over tires, jump over barrels or a car.”
Alexis is well aware of what’s going on in the community. She wants this to be a place that’s part of the solution.
“There’s a lot of crime in the city right now,” said Thomas. “My thing is, if you know there are some people beefing, tell them to meet at The Battlegrounds. They can absolutely shoot it out and walk away. You get to walk away alive.”
After years of preparing Alexis and her family are ready to share the fun with all kinds of different packages for all ages. You can bring your own protective gear or use theirs. There are even monitors where parents can sit indoors and watch the action outside.
Located at 859 Clayton Street in Montgomery, you should utilize their website or name them at 334-861-3464 to make reservations.
