Spiders Place Amongst High 10 Nationally in Graduation Success Rate

RICHMOND, Va. — Spider student-athletes earned their undergraduate levels or transferred from Richmond in good tutorial standing at ranges that rank among the many highest in all of Division I athletics, in line with the latest knowledge launched Wednesday by the NCAA. 98 % of student-athletes getting into Richmond from 2015-16 via 2018-19 earned their diploma inside six years, matching the University’s highest charge for the reason that introduction of Graduation Success Rates (GSR) in 1998.
 
Richmond’s 98 % Graduation Success Rate is tied for ninth highest amongst all Division I establishments, trailing solely Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Marquette, Northwestern, Notre Dame, and San Francisco. UR and Davidson are among the many eight colleges to file Graduation Success Rates of 98 %, tied for one of the best among the many 14 colleges within the Atlantic 10 convention.

“We’re proud of our GSR ranking, but it’s the many stories behind it that truly define us as Richmond Spiders,” stated Associate Athletics Director for Academic Support & Student Services Bruce Matthews. “Our Spider athletes are smart, tenacious, and tough – qualities strengthened by the support of their Richmond peers, faculty, and coaches. Because of this, we should take a moment to appreciate how uniquely situated we are in collegiate athletics.”

 

Richmond’s 98 % GSR is effectively above the nationwide common of 90 %. 11 of Richmond’s 15 varsity sport applications (cross nation, indoor monitor & discipline, and out of doors monitor & discipline groups are counted as one program for the needs of the GSR) achieved good one hundred pc GSR rankings: baseball, discipline hockey, males’s basketball, males’s cross nation, males’s golf, males’s tennis, ladies’s cross nation/monitor & discipline, ladies’s golf, ladies’s lacrosse, ladies’s soccer, and girls’s swimming & diving. All of Richmond’s 15 applications achieved GSR rankings of 86 % or greater. 

The GSR differs from the federal graduation-rate method in that the GSR elements in switch college students who go on to graduate at a special establishment and doesn’t penalize colleges for transfers who depart in good tutorial standing.

Each spring, the NCAA releases a separate set of knowledge, known as the Academic Progress Rate (APR), which measures each tutorial efficiency and retention. Each program receives an APR rating, with groups falling beneath a sure threshold topic to penalties equivalent to lack of scholarships and postseason bans. In the newest spherical of APR knowledge, launched in May, six Richmond applications obtained good scores of 1,000: discipline hockey, males’s cross nation, males’s golf, ladies’s basketball, ladies’s golf, and girls’s swimming & diving.
