Larch House Embodies Modern Alpine Design in Montana

Dallas-based SHOP Development has launched Larch House, a 39-key luxurious boutique resort in Whitefish, Montana, designed by Olson Kundig with panorama structure by Bud Creative.

Set inside the city’s historic Railway District, the property is conceived as an intimate alpine enclave. Rather than a single construction, Larch House includes 10 buildings organized round shared outside areas. At the center of the property is a central courtyard anchored by an architectural boulder backyard and fireplace pits, making a pure gathering level for friends.

Additional facilities embrace a rooftop heated pool and sundeck overlooking downtown Whitefish, a curated F&B program, and a non-public occasion area.

Modern Alpine interiors by Olson Kundig

The interiors mirror a contemporary Alpine sensibility, layering customized furnishings with tactile supplies and detailing. Throughout the resort, friends encounter a thoughtfully curated artwork assortment that includes works by David Yarrow, Sam Reveles, Kate Hunt, and Theodore Waddell, alongside authentic works by native Whitefish artist Madeline Boyle in every guestroom.

“Larch House serves as both a launch pad into the beautiful, big-sky landscape of Whitefish, Montana, and a place of refuge after time spent in that wild landscape,” says Tom Kundig, founder and principal of Olson Kundig.

The visitor expertise is deliberately residential in spirit. Accommodations vary from expansive Cabin Suites with fireplaces, alcoves, and neighborhood views to Larch House Suites that provide direct entry to eating venues and unobstructed mountain views. Longhouse King Rooms open instantly onto the courtyard, whereas the extra intimate Larch House Queen Rooms cater to solo vacationers searching for a comfortable but refined retreat.

Dining at Larch House

The culinary expertise at Larch House attracts inspiration from Alpine traditions whereas celebrating native elements.

Enga anchors the eating program as a light-filled, indoor-outdoor restaurant on the primary flooring. Above, the Terrace affords a relaxed rooftop setting for cocktails and small plates, pairing sweeping views with sundown gatherings.

Slated to open within the spring, the Antler Room will introduce a moody, lower-level lounge for night drinks and shared plates, whereas the Oak Room will present a refined, personal venue for bespoke eating experiences, tastings, and celebrations.
