When Nothing Happens

Most pictures don’t fail in the meanwhile of publicity.

As an editor, I see this always. Images that rely solely on the occasion that triggered them. Once that set off is gone, the {photograph} collapses. Remove the anecdote, the gesture, the coincidence, and there may be nothing beneath. No relationship between parts. No relationship between parts, no inside logic, only a body ready to be excused by what occurred in entrance of it.

Photographing when nothing occurs is the place the work truly begins. It’s the place distance, place, framing, and endurance are examined with out reward. It’s the place you discover out whether or not you might be constructing {a photograph} or simply reacting to stimuli. Most folks don’t like this part. It feels unproductive.
