How one millennial couple turned no children into extra freedom

Ali Higgins and her husband Charlie — aged 33 and 37, respectively — stay with the type of ease and suppleness that a lot of their friends would envy: the flexibility to splurge on wellness, take last-minute journeys, and even downshift work. That freedom, they are saying, stems from one defining resolution: to not have youngsters.

“We’ve built up enough wealth that if one of us had to go without a job for a while or for potentially ever, we would be fine,” Charlie says of their dual-income however no children, or “Dink,” life-style — one which they estimate affords them 10,000 euros ($11,700) in discretionary spending per thirty days.

Since moving to Amsterdam from North Carolina four years ago, Charlie and Ali, who work in sales and recruitment, redirect their extra funds into rest, wellness and building “Dink Social,” a platform for childless {couples} to satisfy and join. “Had we had children, I do not know if we’d have been capable of begin our personal facet factor,” Charlie says.
