LITTLE ROCK, AR. – The Little Rock swimming and diving crew returns to the Donaghey Aquatic Center this weekend to host UTRGV in its closing common season meet earlier than heading to the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, scheduled for Feb. 25–28.
The two-day meet will start Friday at 4 p.m., adopted by Saturday’s session beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday will even characteristic Senior Day, honoring senior Duru Sibik, with the ceremony happening at 10:15 a.m. previous to the beginning of competitors.
“We’re very excited for our final home meet of the season. Our team has been putting in a tremendous amount of work since midseason, and this meet serves as an important measuring stick as we put the finishing touches on our preparation for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. It’s also a special day as we celebrate the final home meet for two of our swimmers, Duru and Gabriella. We’re incredibly proud of them and grateful for the years of dedication, leadership, and impact they’ve had on this program,” stated head coach Nathan Townsend.
“I’m beyond proud and grateful for the past two years with the Trojans. I couldn’t have imagined it any better. I have been coaching an amazing group of ladies who work as hard as any coach could ask for. I have truly enjoyed the ride, surrounded by incredible young women who want to be better every day and who push themselves to the limit to see what they are capable of achieving. When you have a team with so much talent, and at the same time such a strong desire to improve every day, there’s nothing more you can ask for as a coach. Thank you, ladies,” stated graduate assistant Emilia Martinez.
“Duru has been the vivid proof that when you want something, you go and get it. She has been extremely dedicated to this entire athletics program, in and out of the pool. We will always remember her as the great teammate and SAAC president she is. The future is bright for you, Shibby,” Martinez added.
