Price Sharing: University Photographers Snap Up Nationwide Awards

Awards, Honors, and Activities 

University photographers Jason Halley (Communication Design, ’05) and Matt Bates (Journalism, ’03) took first-place awards within the January 2026 University Photographers’ Association of America (UPAA) award competitors.

Halley nabbed first within the General Features class for his “Fog and Stars” picture (under). He additionally earned fourth place for his “Bird Bath” shot (above).

Bates obtained first place in the Personal Vision class for his picture “Above the Fog.”

And Associated Students photographer and pc science main Dash Ferrero earned third place within the Student and Associate class for his “Golden Reflections” picture of a surfer driving a motorized foil board passing underneath the Golden Gate Bridge.

Ferrero had earned first place within the UPAA’s 2025 May Monthly Image Competition, Student and Associate class, together with his photograph of star trails above Trinity Hall.

The UPAA is a world group of school and college photographers devoted to the applying and observe of pictures because it pertains to larger training. The Monthly Image Contest is open to all its members submitting the perfect of their work every month.
