A singular exhibition within the inner-city Perth suburb of Northbridge despatched 25 disposable cameras to a various group of locals with one easy instruction: “Take five and wind it on.”

The venture is the brainchild of the Northbridge Common neighborhood group, which got here up with the concept to encourage locals to fulfill, mingle and discover the great thing about their suburb. 

“The idea was take five photos with a theme, whether that be people, places, wildlife or architecture and then pass it on,” curator Alice Ding says.

“You see images from inside local businesses, on the street, and then there’s a lot of beautiful staged photos, but the ones that I love most are the completely candid spontaneous ones. 

Sometimes there is a little bit of blur — it is imperfect, however that is what we love as a result of it is all in regards to the course of.

“People will discover plenty of acquainted faces throughout the exhibition. We admire the gorgeous shows of recent fruit and greens on the native Vietnamese grocer,” Ms Ding says.

Embracing the imperfect shot

Ms Ding admits it was powerful selecting which photographs to incorporate within the exhibition.

“We ended up getting all of them developed and we unfold tons of of photographs … out on my front room flooring,” she says. 

“It was pure chaos and took 4 of us hours to fantastic tune what we needed to pick as a result of there have been some unbelievable photographs.”

“We’re pretty pleased to have created two small zines and a wonderful public banner and we’re really excited to print out some more and get them up on the walls in Northbridge — it’s a great way to meet your neighbours.”
