MnDOT conducting aerial pictures work in southwest Minnesota

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will conduct aerial mapping in southwest Minnesota this spring. The mapping will create a file of current infrastructure and panorama alongside, and adjoining to, MnDOT proper of means for transportation planning and freeway design. This work is performed when there is not any snow and earlier than timber leaf out.

Weather allowing, work will start late March and conclude early in May on the following areas:

  • Highway 14 – TH 75 to 2 miles west of TH 75
  • Highway 15 – 1500 ft south of CSAH 27 to 500 ft north of CSAH 27 in Kingston
  • Highway 19 – TH 75 to 1 mile east of TH 75 in Ivanhoe
  • Highway 19 – TH 19 to .5 mile south on CSAH 1 in Redwood Falls
  • Highway 30 – 2 miles west of Dovray to 1 mile west of Dovray
  • Highway 68 – Minnesota West Community & Technical College to TH 75 in Canby
  • Highway 71 – TH 7 to twenty fourth Avenue in Willmar
  • Highway 71 – 1 mile south of TH 14 to the southerly junction of TH 68
  • Highway 75 – 400 ft southwest of 230th Avenue to 1600 ft northeast of 230th Avenue. 2 miles northeast of Canby
  • Highway 271 – CR 24/Cottage Avenue to Maple Street in Hendricks

The public is requested to not disturb non permanent targets

To acquire correct aerial mapping, MnDOT crews paint massive white “X” targets on paved surfaces, and place plastic or material “X” targets on unpaved surfaces. Examples of the sorts of targets which may be used are connected.

A survey crew then data the coordinate place and elevation of the non permanent targets for the aerial pictures firm. The plastic and material targets are non permanent and will probably be eliminated by MnDOT when the pictures is accomplished.

Landowners within the areas that may have targets positioned on or close to their property will probably be contacted instantly. MnDOT asks that landowners and others who come throughout targets not take away or disturb the targets.
