Photographer Larry Sultan’s New E book Chronicles His Lifelong Inquiry Into the Uneasy Theater of American Life

You have most likely seen Practicing Golf Swing, a photograph by Larry Sultan. It’s a picture of his father, barefoot, training his golf swing inside his home. Mack has recently published a new book titled Water Over Thunder: Selected Writings, the name inspired by Sultan’s reflections on starting new artistic projects: “Everything is in motion, spinning off of surfaces and slamming against shadowy forms…it seems impossible to find a break in the surface.” This ebook shifts the main focus to Sultan’s intimate, largely unpublished writings, drawn from his journals and notebooks, which span years of ideas on educating and artwork, half-finished quick tales, dream logs, and absolutely realized essays. It is illustrated with marked-up contact sheets, outtakes, scouting pictures, and choices from his discovered photograph assortment. Interwoven all through are excerpts from his public talks and interviews that crystallize his concepts.
