California Gaming Association sues over state-proposed adjustments to player-dealer video games in card rooms

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) — The California Gaming Association is upping the ante to attempt to block new guidelines from the state’s justice division by taking the combat from the cardboard room to the courtroom.

The CGA is suing over new guidelines permitted by the California Office of Administrative Law from the California Department of Justice that can influence card rooms statewide.

The new guidelines embody banning conventional blackjack and implementing stricter rotation of the player-dealer place exterior of tribal casinos.

Many card rooms depend on video games, like blackjack, for the majority of their income.

But Lindo says these guidelines might collapse the trade and influence 1000’s of staff throughout California.

“They don’t know if they’re going to have a job in a few months,” Lindo mentioned. “Ninety-three percent of our employees are people of color, 50% of them are women. The AG says that his goal is to protect vulnerable populations and people of color. By putting 50% of our employees out of work, I don’t know how that’s meeting his objectives.”

In addition, the City of San Jose says $32 million in annual tax income would disappear underneath new guidelines.

According to a letter submitted to the DOJ, that income helps fund 95 cops, 106 firefighters, the prices related to 911 and police dispatch providers and options to homelessness.
