If you aim to reduce your wait time at security, it’s worthwhile to acquire TSA PreCheck. Yes, you must undergo an application process. And yes, it costs around $80 for a five-year duration. However, the benefits considerably surpass the expenses.

At PHL, it’s advisable to go through Terminal C security as it caters exclusively to TSA PreCheck travelers. Anecdotally, travelers utilizing this line tend to be more seasoned and the process is more expedited.

“Additionally, be sure to verify all of your documents beforehand and ensure that your name precisely corresponds with your travel papers,” advised McDonough. “This will save you time and help avoid potential complications at security.”

Utilize taxis

Whenever I land at PHL, I always navigate my way past the numerous individuals waiting for their rideshare vehicles and instead hop into one of the many available taxis. I’m on my way within moments.

Even if no taxis are present at a terminal, an agent is available to summon one, and a vehicle typically arrives in a matter of minutes. A taxi fare to Center City is roughly $35, which is similar to the rideshare options.

Another suggestion by McDonough: “arrange a rideshare in advance for your trip to the airport, but then switch to a taxi for your return journey.”

Participate in loyalty programs

As a business traveler, McDonough emphasized the significance of engaging with loyalty programs. He recommends registering for such programs with every airline, hotel, and rental car company you utilize.

“You can benefit from all the partners associated with your frequent traveler program to gain additional discounts on accommodations and dining,” he mentioned. “We frequently assist our clients in selecting credit cards that provide them with the most travel perks.”

At PHL, American Airlines is the primary carrier, so participating in their Advantage program is essential if you fly at least a handful of times each year. Not only will you accumulate miles and be able to purchase miles at a reduced rate, but as your status elevates you will receive superior seating, complimentary upgrades, and more attention if issues arise.

Employ a VPN or hot spot

I have reservations about PHL’s Wi-Fi, for the same reasons I doubt any public Wi-Fi. They are susceptible to malware and hackers, and utilizing them should be approached with caution.

A more secure method to access the internet at PHL is through your wireless provider’s mobile hot spot services. If you need to use public Wi-Fi, ensure you are connected via a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

If your organization does not already possess a VPN, consider Ivacy or ExpressVPN. These networks may not shield you from malware, but they will encrypt your online activities, making it incredibly difficult to steal passwords and other sensitive data.

Rely on the apps

Several unofficial PHL mobile applications provide valuable information such as flight updates and security wait durations, sometimes free and at other times for subscribers.

However, the applications from the airlines prove to be the most beneficial. They typically contain the most precise and timely information and will keep you informed with alerts, incoming flight details, and your boarding pass. You really shouldn’t travel without an app.

Establish a travel policy at your company

Each organization should possess a documented travel policy, stated McDonough. It’s vital for optimizing the advantages of travel expenditures, confirming employee safety, and managing risks.

This policy would encompass a definition of what constitutes company travel and delineates the organization’s preferred airlines, according to McDonough.

With a robust travel policy in place, he indicated, “if any disturbances arise, you will know your personnel’s whereabouts and can easily reach those who might be affected and proactively contact them.”
