Bucknell Swimmers Dive into Competition Against Washington (Md.) on Celebratory Senior Day

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown men’s & women’s teams honored 15 seniors before facing Washington (Md.) in their final Saturday home meet of the season. The Blue Jays recognized were Liv Hillman, Gracie Harding, Claire Garbarini, Kortny Green, Andy Hoch, Nick Iraca, Griffen MacLaren, Josh McQueen, Robert Midura, Connor Oswald, Liam Quick, Franky Swain, Jack Venza, AJ West, and Zain Wegman.

To kick off the day, the quartet of Emma Sabalaske, Harding, Hillman, and Megan Benson secured second place in the 400 medley relay, while the team of Leif Hoffman, Barron Bishop, Austin Smith, and West earned third in the same event.

In the 1000 freestyle, Hailey Poulos captured second place with a time of 11:47.20, whereas McQueen finished second in a captivating race, clocking 11:00.10. Hillman took first place in the 200 freestyle, finishing at 2:06.63. In the 100 backstroke, Kaylee Blair finished second with a time of 1:05.21. On the men’s side, the Blue Jays also ranked second, with Hoffman completing the event in 57.55.

The Blue Jays dominated the women’s 100 breaststroke, taking the top three positions with Green leading the charge. In the men’s 200 butterfly, Hoffman clinched first place with a time of 2:04.10. Harding secured second place in the women’s 50 freestyle, finishing just 0.03 seconds behind with a time of 25.58, while West also came in second in the 50 freestyle for the men.

Poulos marked second in the women’s 200 backstroke, followed closely by Blair in third. Harding secured second with a time of 2:39.32 in the women’s 200 breaststroke, following Katie Midura in third. In the men’s 500 freestyle, Hoffman added yet another first place to his accolades with a time of 5:08.07. In the men’s 100 butterfly, Smith claimed first place, hitting the wall at 54.13.

The men lost 165-93 while the women were defeated 162-85 against Washington (Md.). Both teams will be returning home on Wednesday, January 22 at 5:30 pm as they host York (Pa.).
