Amazon South Africa has unveiled an Amazon Seller Success Centre at its newly established headquarters in Cape Town. This walk-in seller hub is designed to equip local businesses nationwide to engage with more customers and grow their operations.

Situated at Amazon’s primary office in Cape Town, the centre provides local sellers with various services including immediate registration to sell on Amazon.co.za, training via interactive educational screens, in-person webinars, networking event facilities, product imaging and cataloguing assistance, along with shipping and logistics support.

“Amazon has maintained excellent communication and guided me through the journey of becoming an online seller,” states Nikki Robertson, the founder of the jewellery brand Zulu Mien. “Running my business independently is tough, but their support has been essential in digitising my operations to reach a broader customer base. I genuinely value their dedication to aiding small businesses like mine, which empowers rural women artisans.”

The centre is accessible to the public, welcoming walk-ins from all entrepreneurs and enterprises interested in discovering selling possibilities in Amazon’s marketplace.

Robert Koen, Managing Director of Amazon Sub-Saharan Africa, expresses: “This initiative highlights our dedication to nurturing the growth of local enterprises and aiding South Africa’s digital economy.

“By offering practical support and resources, we aim to close the technological divide for individuals who historically have encountered difficulties accessing ecommerce opportunities. We also recognise the importance of face-to-face interactions to simplify the process for South African small businesses in seizing all the opportunities available through Amazon’s selling partners.”

The inauguration of the Amazon Seller Success Centre comes at a crucial time for South Africa’s Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprise (SMME) sector, which accounts for around 50% of the nation’s workforce and contributes roughly 34% to the GDP, yet faces challenges in digital adoption due to insufficient access to technology and skills.

The Centre tackles these obstacles by empowering sellers and small enterprises with the tools necessary for enhanced digital adoption. Staffed with a team of experts in various aspects of Amazon’s offerings for selling partners, aspiring entrepreneurs and small businesses will have access to comprehensive insights regarding seller account management and onboarding.

To cultivate a sense of community and encourage knowledge exchange, the centre will host and facilitate monthly sessions for selling partners, creating valuable networking opportunities and peer-to-peer learning experiences.

Amazon SA plans to hold its inaugural Seller Summit in the first half of 2025. This summit will offer Amazon’s existing and prospective selling partners exclusive content, showcasing the latest tools and innovations, alongside opportunities to forge meaningful connections with like-minded selling partners and participate in expert-led interactive training sessions.

Suzelle Abe, Amazon SA’s head of marketplace, remarks: “The Amazon Seller Success Centre serves as a springboard for local businesses aspiring to excel in the digital marketplace. Based on insights from our selling partners, we aim to provide businesses of all sizes with the necessary tools to navigate the – occasionally intimidating – transition into the digital landscape and expose them to a broader customer base.

“This initiative enables small enterprises to scale both locally and globally, while simultaneously expanding customer options. Ultimately, it’s about cultivating a dynamic seller community that contributes to the prosperity of our country.”
