Cultural heritage locations, civic structures, and businesses have united in a nationwide initiative to enhance recognition of Samaritans in Ireland during this festive season.
The annual Longest Night fundraising event of Samaritans Ireland occurred on Saturday, 21 December, marking the longest night of the year. This initiative serves as a reminder to those finding it difficult to manage during the holiday season that the Samaritans’ helpline operates 24/7, even during Christmas.
As twilight fell on Saturday, 21 December, various structures and iconic places throughout Ireland illuminated in green for The Longest Night to promote awareness of Samaritans this Christmas.
Samaritans’ 116 123 helpline offers emotional assistance to anyone in need, at any time, available 24/7, 365 days a year, including on Christmas Day. On that particular day, over 100 volunteers across Ireland are set to respond to more than 1,000 requests for assistance and provide a comforting presence to those requiring support.
