“Jaspers Edge Presbyterian: A Thrilling Overtime Clash!”

CLINTON, S.C. — Manhattan mounted a strong second-half effort to rally and compel overtime, ultimately securing an 86-81 triumph over Presbyterian. The Jaspers benefited from five players scoring in double figures, with leading contributions of 18 points from Devin Dinkins, Jaden Winston, and Will Sydnor.

GAME RECAP

• Masiah Gilyard netted the initial five points for Manhattan, but Presbyterian countered with a 10-point run, establishing an 11-5 advantage after Jamahri Harvey’s second three-pointer at the 16:14 mark.

• Presbyterian continued their momentum, extending their lead to 21-7 following a three from Kory Mincey with 13:34 remaining in the first half.

• The Jaspers were held scoreless from the field for nearly five minutes in the middle of the first half, enabling the Blue Hose to establish their largest advantage of the contest at 29-10.

• Manhattan managed to narrow the margin to 11 on two occasions, but the Blue Hose held a 43-30 lead at halftime after Mincey scored another basket.

• Manhattan reduced the deficit to six when Robinson was fouled during a three-point shot and made all three free throws. The Blue Hose were ahead 46-40 with 14:52 on the clock.

• Subsequently, Sydnor sparked a personal 10-0 run, bringing the Jaspers within two at 61-59.

• Manhattan regained the lead for the first time since 5-4 when Dinkins sank his second three-pointer of the game with 5:27 remaining. Jaden Winston followed that with an and-one lay-up, extending the Jaspers’ lead to five with just under five minutes left.

• After Presbyterian narrowed it down to a single possession, Gilyard retrieved his own missed three-pointer and finished the second-chance opportunity to put the Jaspers up 68-64.

• With 1:05 left, a three-pointer from Robinson put Manhattan back in the lead at 73-70, and soon after, Winston added two more from the charity stripe after being fouled on a three-point shot.

• In the penultimate possession of regulation, Carl Parrish delivered an exceptional play for Presbyterian by driving to the basket for a crucial and-one, with Winston penalized for his fourth foul in the process. His subsequent free throw was successful, tying the match at 73 before Sydnor’s off-balance three missed at the buzzer.

• Sydnor got his satisfaction during overtime, with his pull-up three-pointer at the 3:28 mark responding to a three from Parrish, again leveling the game.

• Crucial baskets by Robinson and Winston provided Manhattan the needed separation, before Dinkins capped off the contest from the free throw line, sinking four straight, finalizing the score at 86-81.

STATISTICS AND NOTES 

• Manhattan engaged in its first overtime match since March 9, 2024, when the Jaspers fell to Canisius 73-70 in the regular season conclusion at Draddy.

• The Jaspers scored 43 points in the second half, marking the eighth occurrence this season they surpassed the 40-point threshold in the second half, including the third consecutive game.

• The Jaspers completed 6-12 from beyond the arc during the second half and overtime combined. Previously, Manhattan had shot 3-14 from deep, missing 8 of their initial 9 attempts.

• Manhattan achieved five players in double figures for the fourth time this season, with earlier occurrences against Le Moyne, Army, and FDU.

• Gilyard (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Robinson (14 points, 4 assists) completed the list of double-digit contributors.

• The 10 rebounds represented a season-best for Gilyard, while five assists tied Dinkins’ career high.
