Magical Moments: Dragon Hill Lodge Illuminates the Season with a Festive Tree Lighting for Troops and Their Families

The festive period came to life at the Dragon Hill Lodge on Yongsan Garrison, where the whole community gathered for a tree lighting ceremony on December 17, in Seoul, South Korea. U.S. Army Col. Edward Cho, the commander of U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan-Casey, greeted service members, their families, and local citizens with an evening filled with family-friendly activities, complimentary food, caroling, an ugly sweater challenge, and photos with Santa.

“To our remarkable Soldiers, their families, and our dedicated Korean partners, I express my gratitude for your relentless dedication, resilience, and the sacrifices you make every day. Your commitment fortifies the connections we share between our nations,” remarked Cho during his opening speech. “It is due to your efforts that we can stand united, prepared to tackle any obstacle that may arise. In this season of joy and contemplation, I feel privileged to serve alongside such extraordinary individuals.”

The tree, prominently displayed in front of the Dragon Hill Lodge, was decorated with numerous shimmering lights and vibrant ornaments, representing the essence of the holiday season. The lighting ceremony usually signifies the kickoff of a month-long array of holiday-themed events, featuring musical performances, gift exchanges, and festive culinary treats.

Santa Claus made a spectacular arrival on an installation fire truck, later posing for photographs with several families and children in the Dragon Hill Lodge’s main lobby area. Local dignitaries and leaders from both U.S. and South Korean communities were present, enhancing the strong connections between the two countries.

The ceremony provided service members and their families an opportunity to step away from their daily responsibilities and relish the warmth of the holiday season together. For many, the annual gathering at Yongsan Garrison has transformed into a cherished family tradition.

The event acts as a reassuring reminder of the significance of community during the holiday season, as well as a testament to the lasting friendship among comrades, allies, and colleagues who serve together overseas.
