Every now and then, along with blocks, fabric, or quilt tops, we acquire some distinctive items or orphan blocks.  In this instance, we received several partially completed blocks.  I merely placed them aside,

Yet, I kept pondering over them and began to pile some matching fabric on top of them.

There were eight hydrangea blocks – a few were entirely framed and others were not.  We did have a comparable fabric available that I believed would suit finishing off those blocks.

I rummaged through some remnants and discovered the dark purple fern fabric that had been used previously on a backing.  While searching through the scraps, I also found a delightful purple floral and another print that would complement the greens.

I simply alternated the blocks and quite swiftly assembled a top.  While it’s not the most stunning quilt, I still believe it serves its purpose.  Plus, it cleared up some space in the scrap bin!

I truly enjoy getting inventive with these kinds of projects.  I just never know when creativity will come to me.  Sometimes, it seems I require a task that challenges my mind rather than the mind-numbing sewing of blocks together – which occupies most of my time nowadays.

I have many more endeavors like this…I wonder what will capture my interest next!
