Mention to the cashier that you’re with “the Meetup” and they will guide you to our tables situated in the rear. Food and beverages are available, and Hex boasts a large lending library for your selection.

Any language or behavior that is discriminatory in nature—racist, sexist, ableist, ageist, etc.—will not be accepted. Bullying or disparaging other attendees is also prohibited. We are not here to discuss politics, nor are we a dating platform. Of course, gaming can sometimes involve light banter. Just … ensure your opponents are comfortable with that! I’m quite new to board gaming! Is this group suitable for me?

Hello! Welcome to the world of board gaming! Absolutely, it is. To guarantee you have an enjoyable experience, please arrive on time before game selections are made, and introduce yourself, stating that you’re new to gaming along with the games you enjoy.

We were all newcomers to gaming at one point too.

If you’re eager to expand your horizons and explore a more intricate game, that’s fantastic, as someone will almost always be willing to teach it. To ascertain if players are open to instructing a game they are about to initiate, simply inquire. A bit of experience with games such as Azul, Catan, Splendor, Century Spice Road, 7 Wonders, Sagrada, etc., is beneficial, but not a requirement.

Will anyone be able to teach me games if I’m unfamiliar with them?

Often, yes – you just need to ask. However, planning ahead can also be advantageous, as it allows you to familiarize yourself with the rules before attending.

What do you mean by mid-weight and heavy-weight modern designer board games?

Some examples include: Hansa Teutonica, Concordia, Keyflower, Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate, Great Western Trail, The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31, Clank! In! Space!, Root, Small World, Scythe, Dinosaur Island, Terraforming Mars, Trickerion: Legends of Illusion, Kemet, Battlestar Galactica, Russian Railroads, Fury of Dracula, Underwater Cities, Food Chain Magnate, Indonesia, A Feast for Odin, Archipelago, Detective: City of Angels, and Tzolk’in.

Can we play X?

Certainly! Feel free to suggest them. Ensure someone has a playable version (you or the store), either you or someone else knows how to teach the game, and others are agreeable to playing. Games that require an extensive amount of time (4+ hours) likely won’t be selected.
