High School OBSERVATION PROCESS and |
PLEASE EXAMINE THE FOLLOWING DETAILS THOROUGHLY AS SOME OF THE PROCEDURES HAVE ALTERED TO ALIGN WITH USA SWIMMING STANDARDS FOR AN OBSERVED MEET.
*PLEASE BE AWARE THAT AN OBSERVATION IS REQUIRED ONLY IF THERE IS A VALID PROBABILITY OF ACHIEVING A NATIONAL LEVEL MEET TIME BENCHMARK.
An observation is NOT necessary for authentication to participate in the Indiana Swimming state meet series (DIV, SR & AG) and Central Zone Sectionals, as results printed are adequate documentation of entry time at this point. Observations will be imperative to serve as validated times that will be entered in the USA Swimming SWIMS database for results pertaining to Pro Series, Juniors, US Open & Nationals level competitions. Some national-level invites, not conducted in IN, and utilizing Online Meet Entry, may also demand that a result appear in SWIMS (hence, an observation is needed).
Observations cannot be provided “after the event”. This resembles a sanction or approval procedure (refer below). Please ensure sufficient time is available to have your meet observed.
As per the forms below, the non-USA Swimming hosting organization (IHSAA) must have at least four (4) IHSAA Association officials officiating the event to satisfy USA Swimming Standards for an observation. Thus, if your meet has two (2) assigned IHSAA officials, and two (2) additional IHSAA officials are secured, with two (2) of the four (4) being both certified IHSAA/USA Swimming officials, then no observers are required. If your meet comprises four (4) assigned IHSAA officials, with none being certified IHSAA/USA Swimming officials, then, you must have two (2) more USA Swimming officials to act as observers at your event.
