The Department of Photography & Imaging at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts is seeking an Assistant Professor for a Tenure Track position. We are in search of individuals who are extensively engaged in a creative practice involving Photography, Imaging, and related mediums. Candidates should demonstrate a comprehension of and involvement with historical and modern issues as well as the liberal arts. We are particularly interested in artists who can present evidence within their practice or teaching of a dedication to photo-based image creation as a means to acknowledge and celebrate diversity and intersectionality, while also addressing racism, gender bias, and all types of intolerance. The ideal candidate will possess a dynamic studio practice, exhibit innovation in keeping pace with an ever-evolving field, the capacity to instruct a range of undergraduate studio courses, and an enthusiasm for curriculum development and leadership.

Qualifications:

  1. MFA in Photography or a comparable related degree

  2. Strong grasp of a variety of creative practices in photo-based processes

  3. More than 3 years of teaching experience

  4. Notable recognition within the photography and related media fields – exhibitions, publications, guest speaking, etc.

The Department of Photography and Imaging (DPI) at Tisch School of the Arts, New York University offers a four-year B.F.A. program located in New York City. Focused on the creation and comprehension of images, DPI provides students with an intense concentration on the arts curriculum while requiring a broad foundation in the liberal arts. Our department values diverse perspectives and methodologies, encouraging critical engagement both inside and outside the classroom. Our majors examine photo-based imagery as avenues for personal and cultural expression while working across nearly all forms of analog and digital photo-based image creation, multimedia, new media, immersive, and post-photographic 3D simulation technologies.
