Hellooooo Ladies Supporters!!
It’s freshman, Peyton Burford, here with another Gym Talk discussing my initial semester as a college student and as a Centenary gymnast! The 2024 semester has been incredibly thrilling and full of events, and I’m here to share everything with y’all!
Paris marked the beginning of many wonderful experiences this semester. Not everyone can claim they commenced their college journey in another nation. It was a unique opportunity that fostered lifelong friendships and everlasting memories. It was a special method for our freshman cohort to bond closer while immersing ourselves in the culture of a different country. However, as soon as we returned, our fall semester was in full effect.
All the freshmen settled in and began adapting to the new realities of college life. While the courses can be daunting, the freshman ladies put forth tremendous effort studying and assisting one another!
We were embraced by the rest of the team, and we all began to connect over our team dinners, retreats, and special moments like our sister reveals! I’m thrilled to have become part of the split family with my twin, Anna Ichiba, along with my older sisters, Olivia Stratmann and Emma Lavelle. Fun fact, Coach Meg is also a member of the Split Fam!
Inside the gym, my first semester as a college gymnast was fantastic! Participating in college gymnastics has been an absolute blast! Rather than pursuing our goals individually, we are collaborating to enhance the team! The team is excellent at motivating each other to improve by 1% every day. Practices in Jill’s gym are always a lot of fun, filled with dancing, positivity, and dedication! College gymnastics revolves around being part of something greater than yourself, working alongside girls who share the same aspirations and motivating each team member to strive harder. That encapsulates what it means to be a Centenary gymnast!
Not only do the ladies excel in and out of the gym and classroom, but we also diligently support our fellow Lady and Gent sports teams. We’ve attended men’s and women’s soccer games, men’s and women’s basketball matches, swim competitions, and football games to cheer on all our athletic teams. We consistently bring enthusiasm wherever we go and take pride in the enjoyment we derive from all the events!
Our first intrasquad took place in the Gold Dome on December 6th, and it was absolutely spectacular! It was the freshmen’s first experience of what the competition season entails. With our first meet less than a month away, the Ladies are putting in the effort over break to maintain their determination! I cannot wait to see what the competition season has lined up for all the Ladies!
And I am delighted to share that all eight freshmen have successfully excelled during our initial semester at Centenary, and we eagerly anticipate the upcoming semester!
Happy Holidays, Ladies Supporters, and thank you for following along!!
