Regardless of whether considering it on an individual, relay, or team-wide basis, the discipline of swimming can be profoundly competitive — and this is certainly true at the high school level.
The Delaware Valley High School swimming teams (both boys and girls) are demonstrating once more that they are prepared not only to face but frequently exceed the tough challenges they will meet throughout the 2024-2025 season.
Both squads of Warriors are set to participate in the Scranton Prep Classic Gold Relay Invitational at the University of Scranton on Saturday, January 4.
“We are aiming to secure a District victory and qualify for States,” Delaware Valley Head Coach Chelsea Shatt commented.
This year, the Warriors boast a roster filled with seasoned, varsity-skilled athletes.
“Key returning players include Ben Kruler, Jessica Willson, and Etain Starr in diving,” Shatt mentioned. “In swimming, significant returning athletes to the varsity lineup are Dean Finelli, Tyler Ingraham, Liam Fass, Ryan O’Connell, Michelle Zakharova, Eva Bogusta, Maya Sussman, Olivia Cruz, and Riley Hunt. Notable newcomers include Grace Holderith, Colin O’Connor, Samuel Fisher, and Dylan Sevek.”
Strong leadership remains a crucial advantage for Delaware Valley once more this year.
“Our captains this season are Eva Bogusta, Maya Sussman, Michelle Zakharova, Dean Finelli, Joey Kessler, and Tyler Ingraham,” Shatt stated. “They have been offering excellent guidance both in and out of the pool already, and I am proud of their efforts.”
In the previous season, the boys’ team recorded a remarkable dual meet record of 9-0, while the girls’ team also achieved a commendable record of 7-2.
This winter, expect both teams to perform at a competitive level within their division.
“The boys are positioned in the top tier while the girls are definitely in the mix as contenders,” Shatt noted.
Delaware is poised to confront a number of demanding rivals; Coach Shatt highlighted several of the top teams in their lineup. “Scranton Prep for the boys, as well as Tunkhannock and Elk Lake for the girls, will offer tough competition,” Shatt explained. “We are looking forward to an exceptional season.”
