A Place In The Sun star Craig Rowe has committed to maintaining healthy lifestyle practices through 2025 after revamping his diet and fitness regimen following a prediabetes diagnosis.
In an exclusive conversation with Express.co.uk regarding his resolve, he acknowledged the challenges. “I usually perform well, but then what tends to happen is, and I suspect others can relate, I’ll slip back into my old habits.
“Consequently, I’ll undo all the progress I’ve made. Hence, my new resolution, after absorbing so much this year about exercise, I’ve engaged in various forms of physical activity, and I’ve gained a deeper understanding of food, nutrition, and mindset.
“Thus, I believe my resolution is to utilize all that knowledge and continue forward. Because if you cease moving forward, that’s when you revert. My blood sugar begins to rise, and weight starts to return.
“So my New Year’s resolution is to persist with what I’m doing, but genuinely be consistent, which I believe is an issue many of us find difficult,” he admitted.
Craig’s determination can be affected by his occupation, which frequently requires him to travel to sunny locations to film the popular Channel 4 series.
“It’s quite challenging,” he confesses. “While on the road, naturally you can only manage your food intake to a certain extent. And as we all know, eating is a crucial component.
“There are numerous strategies I employ [to maintain my health]. I endeavor to make the best choices possible. When faced with hotel breakfasts, I simply avoid the bread and pastry sections.
“I focus on eggs, and if they offer savory selections, such as vegetables or salad, I opt for that. Some may consider me unusual, but…that’s significantly better for my blood sugar.
“I carry protein shakes with me wherever I venture. If I find myself in a bind or lacking time, I can quickly mix a shake. I always bring my yoga mat as well, so I can either practice yoga or engage in some form of exercise. Often, however, there are scenarios, like last week when I was in Cyprus, where I went to the gym alongside the sound technician and the cameraman, both of whom thoroughly enjoyed their workouts.
“It’s fantastic to have a little team to motivate one another to go [and exercise]. Therefore, I believe the key [to maintaining consistency] is to simply do my utmost, make the best decisions I can, and attempt to stay active as often as I can,” he confessed.
Craig’s diagnosis may astonish many, as he has always appeared completely healthy on screen. He is now an ambassador for Diabetes UK and has a solid grasp of the condition. Evidently, it is not uncommon to look well yet struggle with it.
“Apparently, there are millions in this country who have prediabetes, and even early stages of type two diabetes, without realizing it!” he exclaimed.
“That’s why I strive to share as much as possible, and next year, I plan to start an Instagram account where I will explain more about my blood sugar experiences to educate others, as I believe many are unaware of this information.”
A Place In The Sun returns to Channel 4 on January 6 at 6pm.
