SEATAC, Wash. – Passengers queued at SEA Airport on Friday, luggage in hand and eager to embark on their flights. It was yet another hectic day at the airport, but it coincided with some travelers discovering two incidents that occurred merely days prior.
Authorities apprehended a woman, who the airport indicated went through the TSA security checkpoint sans a boarding pass, subsequently spending the night at the airport before boarding a Delta flight to Hawaii on Christmas Eve. The woman was located on the aircraft prior to takeoff, as confirmed by airport spokesperson Perry Cooper.
“What a violation of security,” remarked Dan Moore, who was present at the airport on Friday. “In an era where they’ve endeavored to enhance security measures, it’s a rather serious example of failing to meet the standard.”
Delta Airlines provided FOX 13 with the following statement:
“With safety and security being our top priorities, Delta personnel adhered to protocols to ensure the removal of an unticketed passenger from the flight and subsequently had her detained. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers and appreciate their patience and cooperation.”
This event occurred just two days following an instance in which a woman ascended onto the wing of an Alaska Airlines aircraft. The female passenger reportedly became agitated, opened the emergency exit over the wing, and subsequently climbed onto the wing of the plane, according to Cooper.
Alaska Airlines issued the following statement to FOX 13:
“On Dec. 22, after arriving from Milwaukee in Seattle, there was an episode on Alaska Airlines Flight 323 involving a disruptive guest. The situation was resolved safely. We are collaborating with our crew and airport officials to gather further information regarding what transpired. We express gratitude to our staff for their prompt response and regret any complications this may have caused our guests.”
“If it were a more significant breach that posed a threat to the aircraft, like an explosive device or a firearm that went undetected, I would be considerably more concerned; the fact that it involved a human does not make it better or justify it, but it doesn’t alter my perspective on flying,” Moore stated.
The Port of Seattle Police are coordinating with the airlines and TSA concerning this matter.
