From IIM Indore to Iconic Weddings: How One Graduate Captured the Hearts of India’s Elite

Famous photographer Joseph Radhik is recognized for capturing breathtaking images from high-profile gatherings of notable personalities, including Olympic badminton titleholder PV Sindhu, Virat Kohli, Anant Ambani, and Radhika Merchant’s wedding celebrations, along with Bollywood celebrities like Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal, and Priyanka Chopra, among various others.

In a recent AMA (ask me anything) session held on Reddit, Radhik discussed his journey and experiences as a photographer.

During the session, a user inquired about his motivation for selecting this career. In response, Radhik revealed that he initially worked in the FMCG Sales department and ventured into photography during his sister’s wedding.

“I began my professional journey in FMCG sales post-business school, and stumbled into wedding photography after my sister’s wedding. Photography has been a component of my life since I was 17, but I never viewed it as a career. It was after my sister’s wedding in 2008 that I became captivated by this genre,” Radhik penned.

He was compelled to resign from his position 11 months after one of his wedding photographs gained significant traction on social media.

“After 1.5 years of searching online, I photographed a friend’s wedding, and one image went somewhat viral on Facebook/Flickr. Within 11 months, I had to leave my job and commit to this full-time. That’s the brief version of it,” he added.

Educational background of Joseph Radhik

Joseph Radhik obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree from Osmania University. He later earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) from IIM, Indore. While talking about his academic journey, Radhik stated,

“At the age of 20, I was preparing for the CAT, aspiring to gain admission to the IIMs. I indeed attended IIM Indore, and subsequently followed a conventional corporate path for 4 years before diving into wedding photography.”

He also offered guidance regarding careers and hobbies.

“My recommendation: your hobby isn’t going anywhere, become exceptionally proficient at it to the extent that it pushes you away from your primary career – whatever you choose,” Radhik expressed.

“Reflecting on it, I would choose it every single time, for the sheer enjoyment of the work. I am surrounded by affection and individuals celebrating. The euphoria in this field significantly surpasses other genres, and this is a photography genre that deserves heightened recognition globally,” he remarked.
