Santa Barbara Swim Club distinguished athletes and San Marcos Royals members Sierra Tallman and Taylor Steelman took part in the 2024 USA Swimming Winter Junior Nationals in Texas in early December.
The pair, both seniors at San Marcos, joined more than 800 of the swiftest 18-and-under swimmers across the nation for the competition.
“I was happy with the girls’ performances at the National Level,” SB Swim Club head coach Aaron Schlemovitz remarked. “Both athletes will now concentrate their training on their high school events as they gear up for their final San Marcos season this spring.”
Tallman, a signee with San Diego State, competed in the 200 Individual Medley (2:03.76), 100 Butterfly (54.83), 200 Butterfly (2:01.26), and 100 Breaststroke (1:04:28).
She recorded personal-best times in the 200 Butterfly and the 100 Breaststroke while finishing 21st in the consolation finals of the 200 Butterfly.
Steelman, who plans to attend TCU next fall, participated in the 400 Individual Medley (4:29.96), 100 Backstroke (56.17), 200 Backstroke (1:59.84), and 500 Freestyle (4:55.42).
She achieved personal bests in the 100 and 200 backstroke events and concluded the 500 freestyle in 30th position.
