The 2025 Roadsides in Bloom calendar is currently ready for ordering, and residents of Upshur County may recognize several familiar photographers among those highlighted.
This complimentary calendar, funded by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s Adopt-A-Highway initiative, showcases 12 images of West Virginia wildflowers thriving naturally along state highways. These visuals were selected from a multitude of submissions from photographers within West Virginia and neighboring states.

Each household is limited to one calendar, with West Virginia residents receiving priority.
Jointly sponsored by the WVDEP and the state Division of Highways, the Adopt-A-Highway program is overseen by the WVDEP’s Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan (REAP) and seeks to enhance the state’s environment through public participation in the reduction of highway litter.
Since its inception in 1988, residents have cleaned up approximately 70,000 miles of state highways and roads during the biannual spring and fall Adopt-A-Highway events.
Established in 2005, REAP, with the motto “Keeping WV Clean and Green,” aims to clean up West Virginia and eradicate litter. The initiative empowers communities by providing technical, financial, and resource support for cleanup and recycling endeavors. More details can be found on the REAP webpage.
