BECKLEY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Jarrett Trombley, a resident of North Carolina, expressed his astonishment at the recently updated travel stop in Beckley during his return from visiting relatives in Michigan.
“I found it to be really impressive. It was somewhat upscale for a travel plaza,” Trombley remarked. “It was amazing that they provided numerous dining options and maintained clean restrooms.”
Governor Jim Justice, alongside other state representatives, attended the grand inauguration and ribbon cutting of the travel plaza following a soft launch the previous week.
Justice stated that the renovations exemplify what the state can offer to over 3 million travelers using the turnpike annually.
“This not only caters to all of the travelers, but it also serves as an unparalleled marketing instrument,” Justice added.
“It successfully portrays a favorable representation of West Virginia, providing a positive impression for visitors who may not hail from here,” Trombley noted.
After conducting surveys with travelers, state officials opted to incorporate a 24/7 market alongside other food selections, picnic spots, an artisan store, and additional space for gas pumps and parking.
Trombley indicated that the travel stop’s effectiveness hinges on its dependability.
“Facilities like this are far more advantageous and enjoyable to visit than simply stopping at any random exit or gas station,” Trombley stated.
Justice mentioned that the travel plaza will catalyze the upcoming administration’s initiatives to boost tourism, with further upgrades planned for travel plazas.
“However, we must ensure we keep the momentum, and I genuinely believe in supporting the next governor Patrick Morrissey and all the positive advancements to come. I’ll always be ready to assist in any capacity.”
The plaza will feature Popeyes, Wendy’s, and Starbucks, along with some charging stations for electric vehicles.
State representatives informed WSAZ that the Bluestone Travel Plaza is scheduled to open in mid-January.
