WBB Welcomes UConn’s Elite Squad for a Thrilling New Year’s Showdown!

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s basketball squad will face No. 7/7 UConn on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. CT at the Al McGuire Center.

SNY will provide the broadcast featuring Allen Bestwick (play-by-play), Meghan Culmo (analyst), and Chelsea Sherrod (sideline) on the call. Fans can also watch the game through the FOX Sports app.

STREAMING DETAILS

SNY games will be accessible for streaming within the market (CT, NY, NJ, PA) for authenticated subscribers via the SNY app or online.

Fans outside the market can stream SNY games at no extra charge if they are authenticated subscribers who include FOX in their television package. Users will need to log in with their TV provider credentials at or through the FOX Sports app.

CONSUEGRA’S INITIAL BIG EAST HOME GAME AT MU

• Cara Consuegra, in her inaugural year as head coach at MU, will lead her team in her first home BIG EAST Conference matchup as head coach on Wednesday.

• Previously the head coach at Charlotte for 13 seasons, she guided the 49ers across three different conferences, competing in the Atlantic 10 from 2011-13, Conference USA from 2013-23, and the American Athletic Conference in 2023-24.

• Consuegra achieved a record of 134-84 (.615 winning percentage) in conference play at Charlotte and clinched the 2021-22 Conference USA regular season title with a 15-3 record in league competition before securing the conference tournament championship.

VICE RECEIVES FIRST BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL SELECTION

• Sophomore guard Halle Vice was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for the first time in her career.

• Vice accomplished her second career double-double by scoring 17 points and matching her career-high with 11 rebounds on Sunday at DePaul.

• The Bettendorf, Iowa native also registered a career-best five assists, along with two steals and one block.

• Seven of Vice’s 11 rebounds were on the offensive end.

• This marks the sixth consecutive week MU has had a player on the conference’s weekly honor roll.

MASON FILLS STAT SHEET AT DEPAUL

• Jaidynn Mason recorded 16 points, six assists, four rebounds, and two steals on Sunday at DePaul.

• Her six assists set a season-high and were just one shy of her career-best.

• The junior guard has maintained a shooting percentage of 57.1 from the field over the last three games (16-of-28).

FORBES TAKES CHARGE

• Skylar Forbes has topped the team in scoring on seven occasions this season, achieving a career-best 25 points against Stonehill on Saturday, Dec. 21.

• The sophomore forward has earned three conference honor roll selections this season, leading the team and has set a team-high with 20 successful 3-pointers.

• Forbes was the only Golden Eagle to have started a game at MU before this season and has scored in double digits in 10 of the 12 games this season.

DEFENSE DRIVES THE SUCCESS FOR MU

• Marquette stands first in the BIG EAST and 11th in the country for field goal percentage defense (33.9 percent), having restricted opponents to below 45 percent shooting in all 12 games this season.

• MU is ranked 23rd nationally in allowing opponents to score an average of 54.5 points per game.

• The Golden Eagles have limited opponents to under 53 points on five occasions and have restricted teams to 10 points or fewer in 15 quarters this season.

CRASHING THE BOARDS

• In Marquette’s nine victories this season, the Golden Eagles have outperformed their opponents in rebounding by an average of 14.4 boards per game.

• A Marquette player has recorded six or more rebounds 25 times this season, led by Halle Vice, who has achieved this feat eight times.

BLOCK PARTY

• Marquette ranks first in the BIG EAST and 21st nationally at 5.1 blocks per game.

• Skylar Forbes is third in the BIG EAST and 47th nationally with 22 blocks this season.

• The sophomore forward is second in the conference and 47th nationally at 1.8 blocks per game and recorded a career-high five blocks in the road victory at Rutgers on Nov. 29, 2024.
