Position Title: Head Swim Coach & Swim Lesson Coordinator

Reports To: Aquatics Director

Role Summary:

As the Head Swim Coach, this individual will be accountable for managing all elements of and guiding the Steamboat Springs Swim Team, which includes creating and executing training plans for swimmers of different ages & abilities, overseeing a group of part-time coaches, attracting new swimmers, organizing practice sessions and competitions, nurturing a supportive team environment, and guaranteeing the safety and health of all athletes while reaching peak performance during swim meets, all while coordinating with OTHS management and club parents.

In the capacity of Swim Lesson Coordinator, this person will be in charge of the smooth and effective functioning of the OTHS swim lesson program, which includes organizing and overseeing swim instructor personnel, arranging group swim lessons, community education initiatives, aiding in the formulation of annual budgets, and managing the financial accounting for all lessons and other charges associated with the operation of swim lessons.

 

Primary Responsibilities of Head Swim Coach:

  • Create and execute all-encompassing training plans for all roster groups.
  • Develop and uphold team policies and handbooks.
  • Directly coach the senior roster group.
  • Recruit, schedule, and oversee part-time swim team coaches, delegating tasks and offering ongoing coaching enhancement as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to all USA Swimming guidelines and regulations.
  • Establish a competition timetable, oversee all meet entries and coach travel to swim meets. The head coach will be expected to travel as required to support the team when assistant coaches are not available.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with the annual program budget, incorporating fiscal controls.
  • Collaborate with the Aquatics Director to arrange Lap Pool and Community Pool usage.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to review objectives, tactics, and team dynamics.
  • Prepare & clean up equipment for team practices.
  • Encourage a positive team atmosphere focusing on sportsmanship, collaboration, and individual development.
  • Communicate efficiently with parents and athletes about training plans, swim meet timelines, and team news. The head coach is responsible for all communications with parents.
  • Supervise athlete conduct.
  • Advocate for a secure and enjoyable pool environment.
  • Partner with the Aquatics and Marketing Directors to publicize the Swim Team within the community and draw in new swimmers.

Primary Responsibilities of Swim Lesson Coordinator:

  • Design, plan, and schedule swim lessons for all capabilities and ages.
  • Instruct swimming and water safety competencies (when necessary) to individuals of various ages.
  • Oversee the swim instructor team, including recruitment, training, and scheduling.
  • Help develop a community outreach and education initiative to guarantee that all Routt County youths have the chance to learn swimming irrespective of their economic situation.
  • Collaborate with the Aquatics and Marketing Directors to promote OTHS swim lessons within the community.

Shared Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and enforce OTHS Pool policies to guarantee the safety of all swimmers.
  • Be acquainted with OTHS emergency protocols.
  • Exhibit professional conduct while representing OTHS (interacting with members/guests, swim meets, events at the pool, etc.)
  • Other tasks assigned by the Aquatics Director.

Combined Job Prerequisites: (must possess or be capable of acquiring/renewing within 60 days of employment)

  • Current USA Swimming Athlete Protection Training, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, Foundations of Coaching 101, and background check.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
  • American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED (CPRO or Lifeguarding preferred)
  • Experience coaching swimmers at various levels, from beginner to advanced.
  • Experience teaching diverse levels of swimming lessons.
  • Strong knowledge of stroke mechanics, techniques, and training methods.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively engage with swimmers, parents, and Aquatics staff.
  • Leadership capacity to inspire and motivate athletes, coaches, and swim instructors to reach their objectives.
  • Excellent computer, organizational, and record-keeping capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Team Unify (GoMotion), Microsoft 365, Google Docs, and other associated mobile applications.
  • Physical requirement – extended periods of working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Compensation and Perks:

  • Full-time, on-site, + up to 20% Travel
