SCHENECTADY, N.Y.

 – The women’s swimming and diving team of Union College commenced the 2025 season with a 239-38 defeat to #20 Amherst College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gym Pool.

Senior Kristina Valenti delivered an impressive performance. Valenti achieved a season-best time in the 100 freestyle, securing third place with a time of 56.95, just 0.36 seconds shy of the second-place competitor. In addition, Valenti finished second in the 200 breaststroke clocking in at 2:38.08.

The 200 freestyle relay obtained third place with a time of 1:47.09. Union’s team was comprised of sophomore Chloe Matthews, junior Alison Silver, freshman Maddie Stanley, and Valenti.

Matthews secured fourth place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:24.83, while freshman Maddie Stanley also achieved a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.12.

Senior Meghan Seidberg earned fourth place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:43.23, and senior Gabi Acosta finished fifth with a time of 2:45.22. Seidberg and Acosta subsequently set new personal best times in the 200 individual medley, with times of 2:33.63 and 2:35.19, respectively.

Maggie Clifford and Erin Armstrong finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the one-meter diving event. Clifford scored 122.10 points, while Armstrong accumulated 95.77 points.

Union will host a tri-meet next weekend with Springfield College and Hartwick College. The initial event is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Alumni Gym Pool.
