Creative Escapades: Wordle Wonders, Crafty Afternoons, Patriots Showdown & Live Music Delight!

The new year has arrived, bringing optimism for some—perhaps a new grandchild or a serious commitment to the keto lifestyle; for others, it arrives with significant anxiety surrounding those same topics. Regardless, there are several enjoyable activities to partake in this weekend in town.

After a day of relaxation followed by just a few workdays, let’s all venture out this weekend to savor the local delights life has to offer. The Armenian Museum of Art is open and complimentary this weekend. I truly appreciate the current Tsitoghdzyan exhibit. If you have children aged 5-11, there’s a crafternoon at the library this Friday that sounds delightful. On Sunday afternoon, you can opt for a community gathering at Hibernian Hall to watch the Patriots game or attend a string band concert at the library. On Saturday, Storefront Art Projects is hosting an opening reception for an exhibit inspired by Wordle puzzles.

Tigran Tsitoghdzyan is a New York-based artist whose photorealistic artworks combine an affinity for classical and contemporary art, focusing on his experiences as a father and an immigrant. Tigran’s pieces have been widely showcased, including at Art Basel Miami, Cube Art Fair in Times Square, and internationally in cities such as Dubai, Singapore, Istanbul, Cannes, Zurich, Monaco, and Brussels.

Admission to their three floors of gallery space is free on January 4-5 in celebration of Armenian Christmas, which is observed on January 6. Our hours are from noon to 6 p.m.

WORDLE at Storefront Art Projects

Jeanne Williamson Ostroff is inspired by patterns and barriers, drawing influences from construction fences, daily walking charts, and Wordle puzzles from the New York Times. She employs a fusion of printing, painting, collage, and stitching on vintage tablecloths and other fabrics, creating mixed-media works ranging from 6 inches to 35 feet.

RUTH AND BEN STRING BAND

Watertown’s very own Ruth Rappaport and Ben Wetherbee make up a mother-son musical duo whose repertoire consists of spirited, moving old-time fiddle pieces and traditional, contemporary, and original songs characterized by harmonious vocals. They have released a CD titled “Newfangled Folk,” and when joined by a banjo and bass player, they perform as “The Ruth and Ben String Band.”

Ruth has played for many years in the diverse string band The Poodles, while Ben has established himself as a notable fiddler in old-time, roots rock, and alternative music. Both Ruth and Ben teach at the Passim School of Music in Cambridge. Ruth and Ben perform at various venues, coffeehouses, square and contra dances, as well as a multitude of events across the northeast.

Head down to the hall to catch the Patriots game while enjoying good food, drink, and company. (The Ancient Order of Hibernians is the oldest Irish Catholic Fraternal Organization in America, established in 1836.)
